FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Fayetteville SwampDogs announced today their schedule for the 2012 season. Now heading into their 12th season, the SwampDogs open the gates to the upcoming summer of fun on Tuesday, May 29 on the road against the Florence RedWolves.
The SwampDogs return home to open “The Swamp”, hosting the Wilmington Sharks on May 30th. The SwampDogs regular season runs through August 2nd, when the SwampDogs wrap up the season facing the Florence RedWolves. The playoffs for the 2012 season run from August 4th through August 14th. The league’s annual All-Star Fan Fest and All-Star Game will be on July 22nd and 23rd. The location of the 2011 CPL All-Star Game will be announced soon. For the first time since 2001, the league will be comprised of two divisions – the East and the West – that will feature seven teams in each. The newly formed East will be made up of the Edenton Steamers, Fayetteville SwampDogs, Morehead City Marlins, Peninsula Pilots, Petersburg Generals, Wilmington Sharks and Wilson Tobs. Meanwhile, the West will again feature the Asheboro Copperheads, Forest City Owls, Gastonia Grizzlies, Martinsville Mustangs and Thomasville HiToms, as well as the additions of the Columbia Blowfish and Florence RedWolves.
The fun and excitement SwampDogs fans have come to know and love will continue to impress as the 2012 summer of fun promises new and unique experiences for fans. Some of those experiences are new theme nights, more fun giveaway items and some returning fan favorites for promotions. Fans can look forward to at least three of the best fireworks extravaganzas of the summer. The Dogs will host their traditional July 3rd game, which welcomed 6,049 people in 2011, setting a record for baseball attendance in Fayetteville. The 6th Annual StriKing Out Cancer Night makes its return to continue to raise money benefiting the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center along with the 7th Annual Bobblehead giveaway presented by Lumbee River EMC. The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, entering their 12th season in the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players a chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had more than 930 alums drafted and 45 alums make their major league debut thus far.
