FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- The Fayetteville SwampDogs have been honored today as the 2011 Coastal Plain League Organization of the Year. For the second time in franchise history, the SwampDogs were recognized as the premier organization in one of the top summer collegiate leagues in the nation. As Director of Operations, Darrell Handelsman always proclaims, "each night we try to host a party at J.P. Riddle Stadium that fans will remember forever." In 2011, the SwampDogs held parties on 33 nights at "The Swamp" that over 60,000 people attended. Amongst the 14 other teams in the league, the SwampDogs proved throughout the year to excel above and beyond in areas such as: post game meals, on-field promotions, community involvement, webpass broadcasts, attendance and more. The SwampDogs would like to thank all the wonderful people who made this honor possible – the entire summer staff at “The Swamp”, Fayetteville-Cumberland County Parks & Rec. Dept., all the incredible fans, our phenomenal host families and the tremendous corporate partners that continue to support the Dogs and their efforts to make Fayetteville an even greater place to live. “I’m most proud of the efforts and commitment that our front office staff makes every day of the year,” said SwampDogs Instigator of Fun Lew Handelsman. “This award is a just reward for those efforts. In addition, the SwampDogs organization would like to congratulate the front office staff, Lew Handelsman (Owner), Darrell Handelsman (Owner/Director of Operations), Jeremy Aagard (Assistant General Manager), Mark Wilderman (Operations Manager), Patrick Ennis (Director of Ballpark Operations), Phillip Sims (Director of On-Field Entertainment), Michael Ivcic ("Voice of the Dogs"), Kelsey Golackson (Intern), Steven Godwin (Intern), Jessica Kennedy (Intern), Mary Raskob (Intern) and Brandon Murray (Intern). “We are happy to honor the Fayetteville SwampDogs as our 2011 Organization of the Year,” said Coastal Plain League President and Commissioner Pete Bock. “This award speaks to the job that Lew and Darrell (Handelsman), Jeremy (Aagard), Mark (Wilderman), and the rest of the SwampDogs staff do on a consistent basis. They have done a wonderful job in making the SwampDogs a huge success in Fayetteville and in our league. We are happy to recognize the entire Fayetteville organization, as well as their fans, and the community, with the honor of being our Organization of the Year in 2011.” The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, entering their 11th season in the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 15th season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players a chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
