FAYETTEVILLE N.C. – The Fayetteville SwampDogs announced today the latest addition to an already   impressive 10th anniversary roster. Dexter Kelley, an outfielder from Savannah State University, is the newest SwampDog for the 2010 summer.

A 6-2, 210 pound Altanta native, Kelley looks for his junior season to build off of a strong sophomore campaign in the outfield for the Tigers. Kelley was the only player on the roster to not only play in, but to start all 51 games through the 2009 season. At the plate, Kelley was very consistent establishing a .318 average while leading the team in three offensive categories with 45 RBIs, nine homeruns while stealing 33 bases.

"Dexter brings a combination of both speed and power that will make him a valuable part of our roster this summer," said SwampDogs head coach Darrell Handelsman. "He is very athletic and can play all three outfield spots well. We are looking forward to having him with us."

The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 13th season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
