The Fayetteville SwampDogs (23-12, 5-2) improved to 13-5 at home this year with a 5-3 victory over the Wilson Tobs (13-24, 4-5) on Wednesday night. Fayetteville's bullpen combined for three shutout innings to seal the win. The Tobs took a 1-0 lead in the second, but the Dogs tied it up in their half of the frame when Blake Beemer (Ball State) drove in Sal Giardina (Lynn) with an RBI-single up the middle. The 1-1 tie stood until the fifth, when Wilson added another run off starter Drasen Johnson (Illinois), and extended their lead to 3-1 after the top of the sixth. Reed Harper (Austin Peay) cut the deficit in half in the Dogss portion of the sixth when he drove in Mike Tauchman (Bradley) with a sacrifice fly. Fayetteville took a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI-single by Tyler Ding (Tampa) and a two-run base hit by Tauchman. The bullpen took that lead and didn't look back, as Keith Picht (Emporia State), Stephen Frey (Monmouth), and Tyler Brunnemann (Hardin-Simmons) combined for three shutout innings and five strikeouts. Johnson has now walked just two opposing hitters in 26.2 innings on the hill this season. The next SwampDogs' home game is on Friday, July 13th, where it's Freaky Friday at "The Swamp." It’s salute to the Trunk or Treat at “The Swamp” in July, as fans should come dressed in costume to participate in a costume contest. The first 500 fans, 21 and older, will receive a pilsner glass courtesy of Healy Wholesale and Fat Tire!
