Dogs Score Six in Loss to Wilson Print E-mail
Tuesday, 31 July 2012 21:22

The Fayetteville SwampDogs dropped a heartbreaker on Tuesday night, falling 7-6 to the Wilson Tobs. Mike Tauchman (Bradley) ripped a line drive that was caught to end the game with the tying run leading off of second base.

The contest began as a pitcher's duel through five innings. Each team had managed just one run each as both starting pitchers looked very impressive. Max McDonald (St. Edward's) worked 6.1 innings on the hill for Fayetteville.

After the Tobs made it 1-0 in the fourth, Tyler Ding (Tampa) ripped his eighth double of the year, tying him for the team lead. He came around to score on a error in the outfield to tie the game at one run apiece.

Wilson took a 3-1 lead entering the bottom of the sixth, but the Dogs answered once again with three runs of their own. After John Howell (Binghamton) and Ding singled, Tauchman drove in Howell with a one-out base hit. Reed Harper (Austin Peay) then followed Tauchman with an RBI-single of his own, plating Ding for the inning's second run. A groundout to first by Sal Giardina (Lynn) scored Tauchman to make it 4-3 Dogs after six frames.

After the Tobs scored four runs in the seventh, the Dogs tried valiantly to mount a comeback, as they notched two runs in the eighth. The Dogs loaded the bases for Jacob Golliday (Francis Marion), who picked up an infield single to drive in a run. Giardina later scored when Connor Obrochta (Tampa) beat out a potential double play.

The comeback did not come to fruition, however, as the Dogs dropped a game at home for just the ninth time in 25 tries this season.

The next SwampDogs home game is on Thursday, August 2nd, where it's Fan Appreciation Night at the ballpark. The first 500 fans will receive the newest edition of the Fun-Go Bobblehead, and there will be plenty of giveaways and prizes all night long. The game action will be followed by the fourth and final Fireworks Extravaganza of the summer.

Playoff tickets are available, as the Dogs will host at least one postseason game this upcoming weekend. To order your tickets for any game, visit or call the business office at (910)-426-5900, and for updated playoff information, log on to www.goswampdogs.com.
