The Fayetteville SwampDogs saw their three-game win streak come to an end on Sunday night in Gastonia, as they fell 18-10 to the Grizzlies.
Fayetteville pitching allowed 22 hits as they came out on the wrong side of the slugfest.
The Dogs scored the games’ first two runs, as Reed Harper (Austin Peay) and Blake Beemer (Ball State) picked up RBI-singles in the top of the first. Joe Ciamacco (Ohio State) scored after ripping a double to left center field, and Tyler Ding (Tampa) came around after recording a walk.
The Grizzlies added a run in the second inning, and proceeded to plate six more in the third, putting them ahead 7-2.
Fayetteville answered in the top of the fourth, as they scored eight runs in the frame to take a 10-7 lead. The first ten Dogs reached base safely to begin the inning, including singles by Ciamacco, who picked up two in the inning, Mike Tauchman (Bradley) and Sal Giardina (Lynn). Harper and Andrew Parker (Towson) also doubled during the scoring outburst. When the dust settled, Fayetteville took a three run advantage into the bottom half of the fourth inning.
Gastonia would go on to score four runs of their own in the next half inning, and added a run in the fifth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth to make it 18-10 in their favor.
It was just the third time this season that the Dogs allowed a double-digit run total in a contest, as they dropped the only meeting between the two clubs in the 2012 regular season. The two teams combined for 28 runs and 34 hits in the game.
The next SwampDogs home game is on Tuesday, July 31st, as it's Back to School Night at "The Swamp." Young fans will receive back-to-school gifts and teachers get $1 off general admission ticket pricing.
