Fun-Go was hanging out at Capel Arena on Saturday afternoon to help support Fayetteville State University's annual "Ball in Pink" game, which raises awareness for breast cancer on campus and in the community. "FSU may have lost to St. Augustine on the scoreboard, but all of the breast cancer survivors and families in attendance were winners and that is what is really important", said Phillip Sims, SwampDogs community relations coordinator, "We want to thank Fayetteville State University for letting us be a part of such a tremendous event and look forward to doing it again next year."

Fun-Go was even a part of a "Gangnam Style" routine with the FSU cheerleaders during the second half. Follow the link below and fast forward to 1:29:00 to watch Fun-Go show off his dance moves with the lovely Bronco cheerleaders and fellow mascot friends.

SwampDogs Are Here To Stay! Print E-mail
Tuesday, 29 January 2013 12:29

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The SwampDogs are here to stay! The Fayetteville SwampDogs announced today they have agreed to terms with Cumberland County for a new lease extension to continue playing at J.P. Riddle Stadium through the 2020 season.

The lease is a four year extension followed by another four year term at the team option. The end of this lease will mark the 20th anniversary for the SwampDogs playing in Fayetteville.

The SwampDogs have been a staple of family entertainment in Fayetteville since 2001. Initially owned by the Coastal Plain League, Lew and Darrell Handelsman purchased the team in 2004 and have worked diligently to make the venue the place to be during the summer months. Now the longest tenured sports team in Fayetteville history, the SwampDogs are committed to remaining an active part of the community.

“The fans and our marketing partners are what make the Dogs so special,” said SwampDogs general manager Jeremy Aagard. “We look forward to being able to continue to contribute to wonderful charitable organizations in the area. Having that opportunity for 20 years is truly something special. We’re excited the county feels the same way we do.”

“My family and I are so excited to know the SwampDogs will be able to continue to pursue our goals in such a great community,” said Handelsman. “We appreciate all the hard work the county officials have put into upgrading the ballpark each year and are very excited for what’s to come. We’d like to thank all of our fans for their tremendous support over the last 13 years and look forward to many more.”

The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, entering their 13th season in the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 55 alums – including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander – make their Major League debut thus far. USA Baseball to Tour CPL in 2013 Print E-mail
Thursday, 24 January 2013 15:28

The Coastal Plain League announced today that seven of its teams will host the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team for eight exhibition games during the 2013 summer season.

“We are very excited to welcome the Collegiate National Team back to the Coastal Plain League for seven games in 2013,” said CPL commissioner Justin Sellers. “We couldn’t do this without the great leadership in our league with our owners and general managers, as well as the relationship we have with USA Baseball. We know these eight games will be highlighted events for our fans that they won’t want to miss this summer.”

This will mark the fourth straight year teams from the CPL will welcome the Collegiate National Team into their ballparks.

Starting Saturday, June 22, the Collegiate National Team will open its tour through the CPL with four straight games beginning in Hampton, Va., where they will face the Peninsula Pilots. The next day, the team travels to Morehead City for a game with the Marlins. On Monday, June 23, the Collegiate National Team will play the Fayetteville SwampDogs at J.P. Riddle Stadium, followed by a game on Tuesday, June 24, against the Wilson Tobs before the Collegiate National Team returns to Cary, N.C.

“The Coastal Plain League does a great job with its facilities – both historic and new,” said Eric Campbell, USA Baseball’s General Manager of National Teams. “The level of play in the league is strong and competition like this is the best way to get our team prepared for our series later in the summer in Japan against the Japanese Collegiate All-Stars.”

The tour will resume on Thursday, June 27, with a game against the Wilmington Sharks. Then, the Collegiate National Team will play two teams they have never met before when they go to face the Florence RedWolves on June 28 and then end in Thomasville on June 29 and June 30 to play the HiToms in back-to-back contests.

“In terms of fan support, field conditions and strength of competition, I anticipate the 2013 schedule of games with the Coastal Plain League will be a great tour for the Collegiate National Team,” said Campbell. “We are excited about bringing the team back to our existing partners in Fayetteville, Wilmington and Morehead City and also very excited about new stops in Peninsula, Florence, Wilson and Thomasville.”

In addition to hosting the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, teams in the Coastal Plain League have also welcomed and played other international teams in the past, including the Japanese Collegiate All-Stars and the Russian National Team.
