Friday, 27 August 2010 07:44

"The Swamp" is undergoing some simple procedures to enhance the experience for all fans as they enter the park during the 2011 season. The old chain link fence is being removed from the entrance of the stadium to make way for a new wrought iron facade. Once completed the new look front of the stadium promises to greet families as they gear up for an affordable, family night of entertainment each and every time they visit "The Swamp".

Ballpark Digest Recognizes SwampDogs Attendance Print E-mail
Tuesday, 24 August 2010 07:53

Ballpark Digest has released the attendance figures for all summer collegiate leagues in country. This list is compiled by all attendance figures reported by each league and reports the top teams in overall attendance as well as average attendance.

The SwampDogs are happy to announce that Fayetteville and Cumberland County have some of the best fans in this great nation. Since 2008 the SwampDogs have been in the top 10 teams in overall attendance and average attendance. In 2008, the Dogs hit the charts at seventh in overall attendance while establishing a hold of number five in average. More SwampDogs fans graced the gates in 2009 improving the Dogs to fourth in overall attendance and fourth in average. 2010 was a mixture of good and bad for Dogs fans. The five rainouts dropped the SwampDogs number of games to 10 less than every team drawing more fans than the Dogs, dropping the overall attendance standing to sixth. The weather didn't stop the All American fans from visiting "The Swamp" as the Dogs broke into the top three in the country for average attendance.

What does this mean for the SwampDogs and the city of Fayetteville, you ask? The All American Game in the All American City is alive and well and the SwampDogs look forward to showing the rest of the summer collegiate baseball world that Fayetteville, NC has truly the best fans in the entire USA.

Britishmania Sweeps "The Swamp" Print E-mail
Monday, 23 August 2010 12:10

Saturday night was a special night at "The Swamp". Since the opening of J.P. Riddle Stadium in 1987, the ballpark has never seen the likes of what happened Saturday night. Those in attendance will forever remember what they witnessed on an extraordinary night. They saw the Beatles (well, kind of) grace the stage and blast a plethora of their songs to the fans who had their eyes glued to the stage for a tremendous show.

This annual music festival was hosted by The Karen Chandler Trust. The Karen Chandler Trust teamed up with Team Daniel for the first time to help even more families than ever before. The Karen Chandler Trust, established in 1999, benefits local cancer patients and their families with the financial burdens that often come with the long-term effects of their disease. Team Daniel was formed in 2008 to provide resource information to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

There was truly something for everyone as the day went on. Kids could run on the field, jump in the bounce houses or just enjoy time with mom and dad listening to great music. Vendors were set up on the concourse for those looking for the unique items only to be found at a special event such as this. Silent auction items were displayed for the choosing by those lucky enough to end the night as the high bidder.

The music started at 3pm with a karoake contest for local musicians, with the bands kicking off at 4pm. The Atlantic Groove band started the festivities followed by the Seven Devils Band and Chris Hurst. The main event, Britishmania, hit the stage at 8:30pm and played many of their songs throughout the remainder of the evening including costume changes to tie in with their different albums and time periods.

Just when fans thought it couldn't get any better, Britishmania wrapped up with "Hey Jude" just before the spectacular fireworks extravaganza hit the skies over "The Swamp". This incredible show and fireworks are sure to leave lifelong memories with all in attendance.

The Karen Chandler Trust and Team Daniel thank all who attended and contributed to these fantastic causes.

On Monday night the SwampDogs were listed on the agenda for the monthly meeting of the Cumberland County Commissioners but it wasn't for any questions or discussion of the issues. It was to honor SwampDogs head coach Darrell Handelsman for his 500th career win in summer collegiate baseball. He achieved this incredible feat, becoming just the fourth person to do so in summer college history, on June 24, 2010. The board of the County Commissioners presented Handelsman with a plaque to commemorate his milestone.
